Expertise and Credentials
Dr Ang is one of the few local ophthalmologists to have completed 2 separate overseas fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery from the Royal Perth Hospital and the prestigious Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
During his fellowships, Dr Ang also had the privilege of working with numerous internationally recognised retinal surgeons. In the process, he gained vast experience operating on difficult retinal cases, including ones involving the following:
- acute retinal detachments
- complicated cataract surgery
- secondary lens implants
- complex retinal surgeries from diabetic eye disease or chronic retinal detachments
- ocular trauma
In addition, Dr Ang has been managing a wide variety of medical retinal conditions during his years as a consultant in Singapore as well as during his fellowships.
His expertise covers a wide range of general ophthalmological conditions, as well as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and genetic conditions such as retinal dystrophies. Furthermore, he does laser procedures and performs cataract surgeries, where he strives to deliver the best visual and refractive outcome for his patients.
Beyond the Eye Centre
Prior to joining the private sector, Dr Ang also held multiple administrative positions in public institutions. Below are some of the most important ones:
- He was part of the hospital Mortality & Morbidity Audit committee.
- He has served as an outspoken advocate for patient safety, not least by being part of both the hospital Patient Safety Committee as well as a member of the Patient Safety workgroup.
- He has been very actively involved in medical education, and was even a clinical tutor for both schools of medicine in the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.
- He was an MBBS examiner for the National University of Singapore and was awarded the Dean’s Excellence Award, which recognises the top educators and their contributions.
Outside of work, Dr Ang is a proud father to his two young children. He was an avid sportsman in his schooling days and still enjoys jogging to this day. When he’s not seeing to a patient’s eye care with our other eye surgeons, you may run into him on his usual jogging circuit, or even on the soccer field or tennis courts nearby.
