Dr Leslie Ang is an eye surgeon in Singapore who serves as the Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at Shinagawa Eye Centre, Singapore.
Dr Ang completed his undergraduate medical training at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore in 2005. There, he also received the gold medal and book prize in Ophthalmology.
He has been practicing Ophthalmology since 2009 and completed his specialty training in 2016 from the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Following this, he sub-specialised in both medical and surgical retina concerns and worked as a consultant in the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital of the National University Health System.
Dr Ang is one of the few local ophthalmologists to have completed 2 separate overseas fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery from the Royal Perth Hospital and the prestigious Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
During his fellowships, Dr Ang also had the privilege of working with numerous internationally recognised retinal surgeons. In the process, he gained vast experience operating on difficult retinal cases, including ones involving the following:
acute retinal detachments
complicated cataract surgery
secondary lens implants
complex retinal surgeries from diabetic eye disease or chronic retinal detachments
ocular trauma
In addition, Dr Ang has been managing a wide variety of medical retinal conditions during his years as a consultant in Singapore as well as during his fellowships.
His expertise covers a wide range of general ophthalmological conditions, as well as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and genetic conditions such as retinal dystrophies. Furthermore, he does laser procedures and performs cataract surgeries, where he strives to deliver the best visual and refractive outcome for his patients.

He has served as an outspoken advocate for patient safety, not least by being part of both the hospital Patient Safety Committee as well as a member of the Patient Safety workgroup.
He has been very actively involved in medical education, and was even a clinical tutor for both schools of medicine in the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.
He was an MBBS examiner for the National University of Singapore and was awarded the Dean’s Excellence Award, which recognises the top educators and their contributions.
Outside of work, Dr Ang is a proud father to his two young children. He was an avid sportsman in his schooling days and still enjoys jogging to this day. When he’s not seeing to a patient’s eye care with our other eye surgeons, you may run into him on his usual jogging circuit, or even on the soccer field or tennis courts nearby.
