Dr Ang is one of the few ophthalmologists locally to have completed 2 separate overseas fellowships in Vitreoretinal surgery from the Royal Perth Hospital and the prestigious Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. During the course of his fellowships, Dr Ang had the privilege of working with numerous internationally recognised retinal surgeons and gained vast experience operating on difficult retinal cases, including acute retinal detachments, complicated cataract surgery and secondary lens implants, complex retinal surgeries from diabetic eye disease or chronic retinal detachments, as well as a wide range of ocular trauma.
In addition, Dr Ang has been managing a wide variety of medical retinal conditions during his years as a consultant in Singapore as well as during his fellowships. His expertise includes age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and genetic conditions such as retinal dystrophies. He also sees a wide range of general ophthalmological conditions, does laser procedures and performs cataract surgeries, where he strives to deliver the best visual and refractive outcome for his patients.
Prior to joining the private sector, Dr Ang had held multiple administrative portfolios in the hospital. He was part of the hospital Mortality & Morbidity Audit committee and was an advocate for patient safety – Being part of both the hospital Patient Safety Committee as well as a member of the Patient Safety workgroup. He was also very actively involved in education, and was a clinical tutor for both the schools of medicine in the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. He was an MBBS examiner for NUS and was awarded the Dean’s Excellence Award, which recognises the top educators and their contribution.
Outside of work, Dr Ang is a proud father to his 2 young children. He was an avid sportsman in his schooling days and still enjoys jogging, as well as playing soccer or a round of tennis.
