LASIK is a laser procedure for eye, used to correct Myopia (Short-sightedness), Hyperopia (Long-sightedness) and Astigmatism; to reduce or eliminate a person’s dependence on spectacles and contact lenses. Spectacles could impede those who lead an active lifestyle, especially in sports and games. As an alternative, this same group of people would look to contact lenses for clear vision.
Cataract develops in all of us as we age, especially with long term exposure to sunlight. It may also develop in younger patients, especially those with high myopia or diabetes, after eye injury or inflammation, or as a side-effect of steroid medication.
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that cause damage to the nerve of the eye, resulting in irreversible blindness, often without any symptoms. This damage is often caused by increased pressure in the eye. Glaucoma can occur in anyone at any age; a family history may be present in some.
(English) Dr Ang has been practicing Ophthalmology since 2009 and completed his specialty training in 2016 at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Following this, he subspecialised in the medical and surgical retina and worked as a consultant in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital of the National University Health System.
